Question:

My car has a transmission leak.Do I need a new transmission?

I have a transmission leak in my 1985 Camaro. I had the transmission replaced with a used one out of a pick and pull junk yard which has lasted me 4 years, but now its leaking. Are the chances high that I may have to replace the transmission again? Or can I just have the leak fixed? Thanks!!!

Answer:

Find the leak, then fix it. Don't drive it unless you make sure it still has transmission fluid in it or you will be replacing your transmission.
you can have the leak fixed. if it,s the front seal then the transmission will have to come out but you can gave the seal replaced. once the seal is replaced and you don,t let it run low on fluid or overfill it, it can out last the car. overheating the engine is another thing that,s hard on seals and transmissions. but as long as the transmission is still good you can get the leak fixed.
If the transmission is working fine but just leaking they can always be fixed. Depending on where the leak is, it might just be the pan gasket which would take less than an hour to repair, or if it was the torque converter shaft seal then the transmission would have to be removed. I would first jack the car up and wash everything off so that you can see where it's leaking from or have someone find out where.
