Question:

My Car Keeps Blowing a fuse!!!!!!!! Whats causing this?

I have a 2003 Chrysler Sebring. When I first bought it, six months ago I replaced the fuse that powers the radio, trunk button, unlock/lock button, and rear view mirror light. I replaced it every two months but lately Ive had to replace it every other day! I have no clue whats going on or what I should do. Please help!

Answer:

the fuse blows because there's a short in the wiring. Fix the short, or risk the whole thing catching fire.
is this an OEM radio or an after market? do you have an Amp on the same circuit? Look at the power requirements for the raido if this is an after market, it may take more juice than what the fuse can deliver. *************************** DO NOT replace the fuse with a larger amp fuse. your car can catch fire because you just over loaded the circuit **************************
There's a reason that it's blowing. It's most likely a short or fault somewhere in the wiring system. Take it to AutoZone and have them check it out for free.
When does the fuse blow? A: After you've been listening to the radio at high volume or extended period of time? If this is an aftermarket radio it may require more power then the original one did. Check the power requirement for your radio. If it requires more power then what your current circuit is rated for, then I would have a mechanic or car audio technician run a new circuit from your fuse box to power you radio. B: When you turn on your rear view mirror light? check wiring around the light maybe there is loose a loose connection somewhere that is causing a short. C: when you hit the trunk button? Check wiring around the button and in the trunk. Maybe a wire got pinched somewhere and the bare wire is now exposed causing a short whenever it rubs up against the body of the car. D: randomly? Could be A, B, or C.
Auto zone won't diagnose that for you. You do have a direct short and you will need to trace the wires till you find it. First try and disconnect each component in that circuit meaning radio see if it blows if it does then go to the trunk unlock devise and unplug that if it blows then go on from there. When it stops blowing then replace that device. In most cases the wiring in you car is well protected from direct shorts unless someone has messed with them or add thing to the wiring that shouldn't be there. It's just a process of elimination. hope this helps
