Question:

My cat peed on the sofa. No luck getting the stink out.?

We had various strangers in and out of the house all week, and the cats' usual routine and part of their physical space were upset. Result, someone peed on an upholstered sofa. Well, I have been spritzing my favorite deodorizer, Get Seriousand letting it dry to no avail.Has anyone had any luck with getting cat stinkies out?

Answer:

With two cats in the family I've dealt with the removal of accidents like yours several times. First of all, if the upholstery has a zipper and the cover can be removed, you're in good shape. If there's no zipper, I would check for a seam on the back side and carefully cut the threads until you can remove it enough to get to the underlying stain. You can attack to pee much more agressively in the padding without worring about causing permanent damage to your sofa. I would flush the area with a mixture of 2 cups of warm water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Once this has thoroughly dried spray it with an enzyme cleaner that you can buy at PetSmart like Pet 'Oops' Remover or Stain Gobbler. This will neutralize the urine. I would clean the outside upholstery cover very carefully so as not to cause a permanent stain, loss of color or water circle. Once it's all completely dry and odor free I would pull the outer fabric back into place and zip or sew it up. If you don't completely remove the urine smell, the cats will continue to use the sofa as a litter box when they're under stress. Good luck! This is a major and unpleasant undertaking!
Some cats can be picky and turn their noses up to dirty litter boxes that haven't been refreshed often enough. Clean your cat's litter box once a week, and twice as often if you have multiple cats. Use clumping litter, such as Fresh Step, preferably the kind that resembles sand, and lift feces and urine spots out several times daily. Retraining a cat takes several months of commitment. I wish you the best with your cat's behavior problem. Good luck!
The only think I know of is this spray called dumb cat . This stuff takes out the smell and suposely keeps the cat away. That part did not work for me but might work for you.
You need an enzyme cleaner to get out all the organics. Any pet supplies store carries these. Try Nature's Miracle or Unique, both do a good job.
You have to detect and eradicate. The actual pee area might be greater than you think, or there might be more than one peed area. You need a UV flashlight to detect all of the pee areas. Be sure to do it in a dark room or at night with all the lights off. Prepare to get grossed out. Eradication requires more than deodorizing and actual destruction. Enzymatic cleaners are the trick. I use Urine Gone but others work too. Just look for enzymatic action on the package.
