Hotels have shared vents. Even if you stuff a wet towel at the base of the door to keep the smoke in, someone will smell the smoke. Hotel staff and firefighters respond very aggressively to reports of smoke. And, yes, there is a smoke detector, and in most hotels a flame detector (which detects sudden flares of heat). This is a very, very bad idea, unless your idea of a romantic evening is having several angry firefighters barging in when you're in your underwear.
I think he had so much animosity towards his father that he wanted to do everything he could to not look like him. I don't think it had anything at all to do with Brooke Shields. Although he may have loved her they were together before he did all that nonsense to his body so I don't think how he looked mattered to her that much. He hated how he looked because of his resentment towards his father plain and simple. If he looked like him maybe he might turn out like him. Silly thinking but the relationship was that bad. When you fear and dislike your own parent that much it does strange things to your thinking.
