Question:

my home ac unit works but no air from vents. I am deaf so I cant tell if the blower motor is coming on.?

there seems to be cold air trickling out of the vents. my return filters are good. how do i check the blower? where is it?

Answer:

it depends on the unit. it's either in the attic, basement, or in a closet. in a typical up flow unit the indoor fan motor will be under the a-coil evaporator. take the aluminum plate off the indoor unit and you should see the electrical components and the fan housing. put the unit in fan mode and see if the fan is spinning. you should see a big wheel thing spinning round and round. if it's spinning, put it in ac mode, let it cycle and see if the wheel thing is still spinning. if your fan is working in fan mode but not in AC mode, you have an electrical issue. fan relay switch maybe...tough call. no, if it's working in fan mode the relay is energizing. point is, it's something else, not the fan motor. (those are expensive) but um, it's hard to guess. some units are horizontal and some are vertical. you have push through and pull through. the fan can be below or above the indoor coil, OR in a horizontal unit to the left or right of the coil. you could have a duct work issue. if your fan is working and you arent getting air flow maybe one of your main trunk lines in the duct work has become lose. just FYI, you are supposed to get about 400 CFM out of the registers. (cubic feet / minute) that's in AC mode, high speed for the fan. man, i wish i could look at it. i could help you out more, but that's about the best i got. GL with it! jim
First make effective the air handler has finished voltage. once you replaced the filter out (you probably did replace the filter out, wonderful?) you're able to get the panel(s) back on proper to have interplay the fan interlock change to make certain that the interior fan to run. you're able to have a fan relay. interior fan run capacitor, or a fan motor challenge. in case you're reachable sufficient to have effectively challenge shot the exterior unit, the interior should not be a challenge for ya...
The blower is the same blower you furnace uses inside the furnace if it's central A/C. Basically the same if it's a heat pump. The pump is outside like the A/C condenser is. The blower is inside the home as well. Good luck, its getting hot lots of places.
If you have cold air trickling out of the vents, it is a sign of a frozen evaporator. The evap clogs with ice which prevents most of the air from getting through it and through the vents. What air does get through is very cold. The air handler is where your blower is. It is in the garage or the attic. You'll have to make a service call to have someone check the refrigerant level. Also, the outdoor unit. Good luck
If you have central ac and you own a house, your blower, I believe should be outside and sucking in air and pushing it through your house. It is basically a big box looking like thing with a metal piping covering a rotating fan. To check and see if it is turning on you can drop the temperature in the house to something you know is going to take some time to fix and then walk outside and monitor whether or not the blades are spinning. If not I would contact whom ever installed your ac to come take a look at this. If you have a smaller window frame ac unit what you would want to look for is when you turn it on you can feel the vibrations that the unit should be making. Also when you shut off the temperature and just set it to the fan mode it should vibrate a little. If you don't feel like there is any electricity going to the motor or if the vibrations are very off, just not smooth, make an appointment with a repair guy and have him take a look. Good Luck and just a basic word of warning it is best not to open these up yourself due to the amount of moving parts and the fast spinning fans. Also make sure your vents are open
