I would use Clorox bleach, just use the regular bleach, use about two cups of bleach, put the bleach in the wash not the rinse cycle, use full load option so the bleach can clean the washer. If this doesn't help, ask someone at Sears if they know of any way to get the musty smell out of it. Good luck, and let me know if I helped you at all.
Try putting some baking soda in with the wash load. If you have a full load of laundry, try one-half cup of baking soda. If it still smells musty, try a full cup of baking soda, I don't think it will hurt your laundry. Your things in the laundry that you are washing will look whiter and brighter using baking soda. Put the baking soda in with the clothes. When the machinge fills with water, the baking soda should mix with the water.
This is a problem common to front loading machines. Several manufacturers have recalled the gasket in the front and will replace it free of charge. That is with the exception of LG and Whirlpool both of which are being sued alleging the gaskets retain water causing mold. Call the manufacturer of your machine to see whether they participated in the recall. Some things suggested in Consumer Reports to combat the mold problem are to leave the door open when not in use so the gasket can dry out. Use borax along with your regular detergent because it kills the mold and its spores. Or add 1/2-2/3 cup of baking soda with the detergent or 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse water to combat the smell.
Try throwing some white vinegar in with your next load of clothes, that will help get the musty smell out of the washer. My best friend has a front loader that she loves, but she has the musty smell problem too. She started leaving the door open a little bit to let the inside dry out and that took care of the problem Forgot to add- don't use the vinegar if you use baking soda based detergent...ever see the model of a volcano that used baking soda and vinegar? I had foam coming up through the bathroom sink when I made that mistake!
I had the same problem with my front loader. It is normal for them to do so. If you have a HE washer then you could buy affresh (I'm sure there are others you could buy it for as well). It's a big tablet that you use monthly in a normal cylce without clothes. They are more on the expensive side but are worth it. What makes the clothes smell worse is when you leave them in the washing machine (especially in the heat); so try to take them out immediately when they are done washing. Also when the machine is not in use leave the door cracked open so the moisture isn't trapped inside.
