Question:

my mechanic cracked my windshield. he said this happens sometimes when they put it on the hoist.?

Is this true that just by putting your car on the hoist it can crack the windshield. and if so who's fault is it. I could see if there was a chip or crack in the windshield that this could happen cause the car could flex a little. But if the windshield was free from any damage or defects is this some thing that could happen or does happen occasionally.

Answer:

Windshields are very tough when you think about it. You can hit big bumps in the road and they couldn't care less. Normally lifting a car shouldn't cause nearly this much flex whether it was lifted by the wheels or the frame. I would say that the mechanic lifted it by the wrong place and should pay for it to be replaced.
Bottom line.....he owes you a windshield. His reasoning is pure BS
If you are absolutely certain there was no damage to your windshield prior to being hoisted, then I would say it is the shop's responsibility to fix it. I must also say this is a very unusual incident. If the mechanic has no insurance or refuses to take responsibility, you will need to find out if your insurance company will cover it as a comprehensive claim. I once had a chip in the center of my windshield. I hit a pothole and the windshield cracked all the way across.
yes as a hoist is used for pulling and not lifting as to who is at fault it could be i and or we becomes infinitive.
News Flash. Automobile repair shops are required to carry comprehensive insurance which will pay for a new windshield to be installed in your car. Call your insurance company. They will help you through this mess. Your comprehensive and or glass coverage will pay for it also.
