Question:

My sons uniforms are 100% polyester. What setting on my iron should I use to press them?

He works in a prison and must have very sharp creases. I don‘t know how hot to set the iron and I am afraid of melting them. Is there anyone who can help me?

Answer:

lay it out on your ironing board. start your iron on a very low setting. you'll work up the heat on your iron until the iron just barely gets the wrinkles out, you'll have to work on it for a while. do NOT turn your iron up on high. The gown will melt. Press hard with your iron on a warm setting. Spraying with water will help a lot.
Hi; a polyester is a synthesis stuff, this kind of material has a low resistance for the high temprerature, so your iron should has a synthesis option to regulate the temperature, if not, just keep in mind two things: first of all regulate it at a very low temp. the other is using something, such as a sheet to separate the iron from the stuff you are ironing, any way it is a good thing to isolate between them. Have a luck. .
Wash, dry as normal. Put the iron to medium setting if directly ironing on the fabric. Check inside to make sure it won't make the fabric shiny. If it does you should use the next directions. Get a spray bottle with water, spray onto fabric, press. This enables the iron to generate steam without a high setting, since you are in medium heat. If you open the steam med or high on the iron, it will leak. If the fabric gets shiny due to hot iron on polyester (which sometimes happen, and you'll only figure it out in the sun) do not directly iron on to fabric. Find a bandana like fabric cloth. Test to make sure it's colors don't get on the fabric to be pressed; or the patterns don't get stuck on your iron. If so use an old t shirt (white cotton). Set the iron on high (you have the protecting barrier of the cloth to iron with it is ok), set the steam on high and press. If there is no steam option on the iron settings, make sure to have a spray bottle of water, mist and press, on to the cloth set on the trousers. Shift the position of the protective cloth, as you press other parts. Make sure you don't crease the top cloth, it will make lines on the trousers. Practice to iron with cloth on easier fabrics (like sheets). You'll get a hang of it quick.
