Hey people, please help me if you know anything about vacuum cleaners....I put a new bag in it, but it has no suction and its not spinning when I turn it over, could it be the belt or what?!?!
Sometimes when the bag is over-full the dirt, dust gets backed up into the hose. Open it up again see if the hose is free, clear of obstructions.
start with the belt since it's not spinning. if that doesn't fix it then look further. i've found that belts wear out fairly quickly on most vacuum cleaners these days. good luck.
first check the attachments, if you don't have suction, then the machine is clogged, if you have a shop vac or another vacuum you can use its attachments to try and pull the clog back out the way it came in ( sometimes you can use a broom stick to push a clog out but you need to be careful not to tear the hose ). If you have suction and the brush roll doesn't turn than the belt is broken or stretched out ( they should be changed every six months to a year ) consult the owners manual on how to change the belt, or take it to a vacuum shop most can change the belt on the spot for pretty cheap.
I would check the belt first. But, the beater bar on my hoover sometimes gets threads or my long hairs wound around the ends which prohibits it from turning. Then you have to take a pair of scissors and cut it in several places and pull it off. Also, check your filters. Mine sometimes get clogged with dust and dog hairs (mine is on the side of the vacuum) which really affects the suction. If you don't have a new filter, just beat the dust out of it on the side of a trash can.
