Answer it! I don't know why anyone would want to answer after that. Commanding an answer like that makes you look like a jerk. It's an ugly demand. And it was totally unnecessary.
Well it depends on the context. If you want to dig a hole, you reach for a spade to make the work easier. In industry, machinery : 1) made it possible to produce goods cheaper than making them by hand but 2) it meant that the workers lost the skills to do the work. It was the machinery that was actually doing the work, and the workers were only operating the machines.
