Question:

need an opinion on exhaust sound?

i own a 2002 chrystler concorde 2.7, now i know all of you are like oh thats a crappy car, but the thing is i love it its roomy but also has power, its a newly rebuilt engine, so it purrs like a kitten you cant even hear it, now dont get me wrong, i love the nice soothing sound. but what i want is a nice performance sound, now im not talkin about what you see on these honda civics, cherry bombs all that, i just want a mellow sound, kind of drowning noise, that still packs a punch when i accelerate, i want it to sound internal, not like its the tip thats makin the sound, so i was wondering what exhaust should i consider, for my car, i dont want to be a poser, and have no 4 exhaust, so anybody got any ideas?

Answer:

I've got an Apexi exhaust system on my celica, and it sounds good. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the tip, it sounds almost like it's from the engine, it's hard to explain. It's sounds good because it's not obnoxious, but it still sounds good when I accelerate or rev the engine.
Try an exhaust system from Borla or Flowmaster. Even if they don't make a cat-back system specific to your car (they may not), you can buy the muffler(s) and have a good exhaust shop fab up some custom fit cat-back pipes for you and put the mufflers in the stock location for not much more (if any more) money than a pre engineered cat-back system costs. From what I've experienced, Borla exhausts typically have a nice deep mellow sound (I had a Borla exhaust on an older Ford Focus and liked it). The Flowmasters I've heard (mostly on V8s) seemed to have a little more bark than Borlas when run wide open but also have a nice deep sound at idle or part throttle. Neither should have that overly brassy fart-can ricer sound, especially since you've got a V6 not a 4cyl.
