Question:

Need some pipes or tubes to make homemade ferret tunnels throughout bedroom?

Pretty much anything safe a flexible that can be used. Needs to be about 3 or 3.5 inches in diameter. I need quite a bit of it. You know the play places at McDonalds for kids? Well, thats basically what I'm going to do only much smaller for my two ferrets. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find what I'm looking for? I'd like to find something other than PVC unless I can find about 20 feet of it that's flexible, clear, 3.5 inches diameter, and without an outragous price. Thanks so much.

Why not stop by your local department stores gift wrapping department and ask them for their left-over tubes? (The tubes they have are the ones inside their roles of wrapping paper which are the perfect size for ferrets...I know, I have some myself. hehe) You will sort of look like an idiot asking the employees for them but what the heck!! Put on your best smile and ask. They are free AND they were just going to throw them out anyway. And if this makes you feel better, I used to work at a department store when I was much younger and people would ALWAYS come in and ask for empty boxes and cardboard. Its fairly common. ;)
I would recommend Tapp Plastics ( they are nation wide) they can recommend the best place to get it or look up plastic manufactures about 3 dia. clear acrylic tubing. I owned 6 ferrets and we had that and they loved it. I would also recommend a cheaper route of black PVC tubing from your hardware store it cheaper A LOT CHEAPER and they will it love because they will be able to play hide and seek in it and be able to hunt for each other like cat and mouse games. If you are going to make long sections of tubing cut escape holes every few feet 1 for air and if the ferret needs to get out quickly. clean the cut edges with course grit sand paper 60 or 80 grit will do. Do not use glue of any type as they will chew on the tube if you want to join 2 tubes use the flexible corrugated tubing you can get from the hardware store a little bigger than the tubing.. good luck and I hope I was helpful.

The tubes you need to get should be 4 wide which will enable the ferret to turn around inside the tube. Aluminum dryer tubing or plastic dryer tubing is this wide and you can find it at Lowes or Home Depot. The aluminum tubes you need to be careful with. As the ferret chew them up a bit edges can get a bit sharp so you need to regularly check them over and put a little duct tape on any edges. Better, though, are the tubes made especially for ferrets. There's one called the Marshall's Thruway that extends to 20 feet when stretched out. Before I bought my house I had a townhome and I had the tubes going down the stairway. The ferrets were sliding down it like there were on a luge and then running back up it as well. Links below for where to find it. There also seems to be someone with an endless supply of them on OKorder so you can save a bit more money shopping through there as well. Just search ferret tube ferret freeway or ferret thruway.
