Transmission recently blew out on one of my cars. it is a 2004 Dodge Neon ST- 4 cylinder. The mechanic I usually take my cars too is quoting me a price of near $1,800 to just rebuild the Tranning and for labor. Seems a bit way too high for me! What do you think?
shop around but thats what they cost to rebuild,,,and as long as its apart you may as well.replace clutch' [old mechanics saying,,,believe it]
yeah it is a little pricey for tranny labor, look around on the net for a used or rebuilt one because that will probably be cheeper than having a mechanic repair it, and they are pretty easy to install, just takes time.It may be hard to find one at a junk yard because its an 04.
take your car to a transmission specific shop. not just any mechanic. their prices are usually lower. Alsoyou could probably find a junk yard tranny for less to replace it with. but theres a chance it will be bad. go to a cottman's transmission shop or a local shop specific for transmission repair. and that price could change once they get inside the transmission. could be big problems or small problems. where ever you take it, make sure they call you before they do anything once they get the trans out of the car. don't get ripped off. bring a friend that knows a little about cars to talk to them for you.
