Question:

Negitive affects of cracks and openings in a motorcycle exhaust system?

I have a 2001 suzuki sv650 6sp carb fuel system with a v-twin motor fyi. the header system has 4 cracked areas, two of which that are 1/4 inch thick and about 1 inch long. sounds nasty too. what kind of negitive affect does this have on the motor and carbs if any at all? thank you in advance :) hope your doing well.

Answer:

Above called that one. ^ Every time you cut the throttle cold air rushes in to the exhaust valve area. Makes the valves twice as hot. This will burn them up and cause motor failure. Fix ASAP.
I don't think so. But now the Mass Air Flow meter must be cleaned. That's probably why it shakes and stalls. Tell your mechanic to clean it. Make sure he knows to use special cleaner, not carburetor cleaner. It got dirty when the car was breathing dirty air. (New air filter too, if it's not very new.) You don't say what Mazda you have but a lot of them have a MAF meter.
A Bad PVC Valve can either not let enough airflow through caused by sludge in it or the spring inside gone weak and letting too much oil through. It's a cheap part .The hose the PCV valve is connected to will be wet with oil if it's letting too much through. If a PCV Valve is sticking shut,it will have sludge in it and if you shake it,you won't feel any movement inside it of the valve moving back and forth. Always repair or replace any broken hoses.
For the best answers, search on this site shorturl.im/UJxS8 It is not unusual to find oil there. The crank case ventilates into it at speed and as good as the baffles are in the valve covers some gets in there over a period of time. Some car owners put a catch tank in the line to prevent this. But it is normal to a point, as the rings fail blow by increases and the amount of oil that ends up there increases. But do fix the split hose, this throws off the ECM because the air flow meter is not getting a valid reading on how much air is going into the engine.
It will burn your valves out, and you'll have to rebuild. I'd get it fixed before riding it anymore. riding 50 yrs
