Question:

New radiator, sudden transmission leak.?

Hi, I just replaced my radiator, two hoses that lead from the radiator, temp guage and valve at a repair shop. Suddenly there is a transmission leak. Could the two be linked, and somehow they managed to screw my transmission up and cause the leak.

Answer:

The first post is correct, automatic transmissions have lines that run from the transmission to the radiator to help cool the transmission fluid. The fluids are kept separate as the trans fluid has its own little tank that sits inside the radiator and is cooled by the radiator fluid. You didn't say where the transmission is leaking, but if they cross-threaded the fittings on the radiator, or failed to tighten them correctly, you would have fluid leaking from them (they are quite a pain to get tightened just right), they are usually located on one end of the radiator. But, if your fluid is leaking from the transmission itself (pan seal, or somewhere else), then I would tend to believe that it was just coincidental, unless they loosened the lines on the transmission that come from the radiator and those lines are leaking. Otherwise they wouldn't have any reason to be under the car. Hope that helps.
Transmission are cooled by the radiator on automatics. If they did not tighten the hoses or cracked one then yes. related for sure. If it is a manual teany no. Take it back!
Take it back to them and have them Retighten all the connections to the radiator. This does happen sometimes then the radiator is in stalled. This is the most over looked connection when attaching a new radiator. They need to tighten then connectors and check the tansmission fluid to make sure it's at hte proper level. Don't let them talk you in to leaving the car. They screwed up they need to fix it while you wait. No questions asked. you have paid your money, the others can wait.
