Question:

New York City Housing Authority. Can Anyone Relate?

After more than 12 years on the NYC Housing Authority waiting list, I finally got a chance to rent an apartment in the Far Rockaway Projects (Beach 41st Street Houses)I lasted 3 months and needed to moveWhy did I move out? Here are the reasons: 1-LOUD RADIOS between 12am and 6am.2-Urine and other nasty stuff in the elevators.3-My mail box was constantly broken into4-I could not sleep due to NOISE.5-Gang fights in and out of the building6-Prostitution in the building7-Drugs in the buildingShould I go on? I rented a furnished room in the East New York section of Brooklyn BEFORE being accepted by Housing but like I said, I could not live with those animals (they are not people)I am hispanic (not white) for those of you who think this is a racist white person talking bad about your precious ghettoI DO NOT accept assignments in bad areasYes, money is tight, very tight but I am now sharing an apartment with a family member and so, things are SLIGHTLY better.

Answer:

Hey there, What is the name of the organisation you will be dealing with? I am presently raising a service dog but I live in Quebec, CanadaI believe that my organisation lets pretty much any type of person raise their dogsIt doesent matter if you live in a condo because the person that will get the service dog may also live in a condoHowever, the first rule of my organisation is that the dog cannot stay alone for more than 4 hours a dayBasically, i have to bring him to work everydayBut the rules might be different for your organisation so contact them to learn more!
As a kid, I grew up in a housing project (Boston-Secor Houses in the Bronx)In the early 70's it actually wasn't that badMiddle class people were living in the projects as wellHowever, once all of the welfare people were admitted into the projects, it went downhill QUICKSo.let's break it down1LOUD RADIOS - yep! My neighbor was a DJ and I remember trying to sleep for school and he would do his scratching (this was late 70's/early 80's2.Urine and other nasty stuff - How about a DEAD body? YES! A guy od'd right in the elevator! 3Mailbox - My mother had to rent a P.OBox because of it4Not sleep due to noise.see number 1 5Gang fights - That happened more in the late 80's and early 90's when my parents and I left! It was usually Secor vsEdenwald Houses (nearby), or Secor vsThe ValleyOne thing or another6Prostitution - There was one in the building I knew ofNearby New England Thruway had a tonload of em7Drugs - The OD in the elevator, people strung out on the staircase, weed smells, needles, crack vials.oh yeahMy parents and I had lived in that project for 20 years.once I had graduated college and wanted to get out of there THAT BAD (this was during the crack epidemic era of the early 90's) I too am Latino so I feel your pain with the projectsIt's definitely a survival of the fittest game in there because if you can deal with the crap of that, you can deal with most anything.
