Question:

Nuclear energy to power cars?

Will we soon be able to find a more stable way to harness nuclear energy and use it in things as minor as car engines or possibly even space ships to make distant space travel possible?

Answer:

How would you remove the waste products? they have nuclear capability plant life that remove depleted uranium rods, yet how in the international do you anticipate them to take away billions of them? and how would the operator shelter themselves from radiation? every physique would could positioned on a radiation tournament everywhere any further.
Nuclear power is already used in satellites and deep space probes by devices called radioisotope thermoelectric generators. Nuclear power plants on earth use radioactive material to boil water for use in large steam turbines. Electric cars can use this power to drive, so in a way we are using nuclear power to drive cars today. Will we ever see nuclear material in a car as a direct source of fuel? I honestly don’t think so. It’s just too dangerous.
Shielding has always been the limiting factor in nuclear energy. In the desire to make vehicles lighter, adding weight is an issue and shielding is not light. Also, lifting heavy things into orbit is problematic, if costs a great deal of energy to do so. Small reactors on unmanned space vehicles have already happened, but is it possible to send a large reactor into space for a manned vehicle, perhaps. Most likely, the way nuclear will happen is fixed power plants which generate electricity and then that electricity stored for use on vehicles (electric cars) in batteries of other type devices. However, in all cases there are conversion efficiencies and rather than make feel good politically correct decisions on technology, we should consider the actual costs of doing work for one way or another. For example, nuclear energy is converted to a heated fluid, the heated fluid drives a turbine, the turbine drives a generator, the generator sends electricity to a transformer, the transformer is connected to the power grid via the power lines, the power lines connect to a transformer at a sub-station, the substation has power lines to send the power to your house, at your house there is another transformer to convert the voltage for home use, you house has a battery charger which converts the voltage again to a level that can be sent to the battery, the battery converts the electricity via a chemical reaction to stored energy. Now you want to use the energy, so you convert the stored energy in the battery via a chemical reaction into electricity, the electricity is sent to a motor controller which converts the electricity into a form the motor can use, the motor then converts the electricity into rotary motion, the motor shaft connects to the gear box which transmits the rotary motion to the differential, the differential sends the rotary motion to the wheels.
