My Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT 512mb keeps overheating, it idles at 63 C and the screen locks up and the sound loops at 74 C, when playing Mafia 2 demo, I heard people's cards would heat up and crash as well, but theirs were at least 80 C so tomorrow I'm going to blow out all the dust and all the dust under the heatsink, all answers are welcomed thoughI hope to get this problem resolved before the American release of Mafia 2, because I don't want to spend 50 dollars on a video game I cant play due to a stupid graphics card's heating problemIf you are going to recommend me a earlier driver please offer a link because I saw about 7 older drivers and I don't know which one to try, Thanks again.

Think you already found your problem, but if your VGA is one of the plastic encased ones you may have to take it apart and clean it, I had the same problem and just cleaning the outside didn't work, kept overheating until I took the card out unassembled it and cleaned it, amazing how much crud was in it, Runs fine now, before it idled in the 50,s and ran in the 80,s now it idles in the 20,s and runs in the 40 or 50C rangeBought a tube of ceramic based thermal paste [does not conduct] used it on the GPU assembled the card and it worked great, Good Luck.
