Question:

Ok;I think I need some color help with a rug?

Just moved. Livingroom has off white walls solid wood flooring which is a golden oak color. Am buying olive off white livingroom furniture, but need to know what colors would go well for a large rug? The curtains are also green, but more pale. I'm not picky about the style rug; can be contemporary to Oriental, as long as the colors look good.

Answer:

I would go with something that has several colors of browns, golds a little green to set off the green , so beige, gold and green.
You could go with like colors such as natural colors in a fall pallet. You have olive and off white, so yellow and brown would go as well. I would go for a punch of color though, and add some dark/brick or burgundy red. You could purchase a few decorative pillows as well as have some of that color in the rug. You could also use some metallic colors like gold and bronze to accent your room and give it even more dimension. Most of all, have fun and pick colors and fabrics you like and will enjoy!
Anything will work. I would suggest that to give the room some interest that you pick a rug that has more in it than green and use some of those colors for accessorizing and pictures and such - unless you want to go for a room that is in just one color, of course. If you're not sure about what colors the rug should have other than green, just look at your favorite comfortor or sweater or go to the carpet store and see what kind of colors - not styles - jump at you. Colors can be tricky - but if they are using them together in carpets or fabrics that it's a pretty safe bet that they will all work together when you use them.
You will have no trouble finding a rug. Most tradtional rugs have 25 to 35 different shades of color. Just try to match 2 to 3 and you will be ok. The other colors are bonus colors that will let you use it for years to come. Take samples of colors and fabrics with you when you shop. Most stores will have expert help for you. Also many will let you take the rug home for a day to be sure you like it.
I would go for a shag pile, string coloured rug.
