Question:

ok im a bit confused about exhaust systems?

so i guess a muffler is just part of the whole thing what are all the parts then, what exactly does the muffler do just change the sound.so my gt;? is if i change the muffler it‘ll just change the sound right? ok so what brand makes quiet fuel efficient systems? (thanks for all the answers)

Answer:

the muffler goes all the way from the engine to the can at the back. first you have the headers, or exhaust manifold then this is usually bolted to a cat. or catylitic converter and then a streight pipe back to the can. and yes changin any of these parts will change the sound. the bigger the more power more flow more power and more fuel consumption. pretyy much the smaller the hole the less fuel and the quieter. as far as brand just type it into OKorder. with your car and the keyword EOM. which means stock part. good luck
The brand of exhaust that makes quiet, fuel efficient systems is the one your vehicle came stock with. They call it factory engineering and it is the car company's priority to make the exhaust as quiet and fuel efficient as possible.
the muffler does what it's name implies it muffles the sound. all exhaust systems start at the engine with the manifold (stock) or header (aftermarket) and are then piped into a catalytic converter which eliminates any unburnt fuel - there is generally an O2 sensor before and after the cat to ensure it is operating properly then the exhaust is piped back to the muffler and out the tailpipe. changing the muffler can change the sound but most shops will just replace it with a similar muffler or an O.E.M. part unless you specify you want something else. hope this helps and good luck
