Question:

Once in a while on my flat bed trailer I haul pallets across the state I pull it with my 1 ton ford truck.?

I haul 150-200 pallets on my flat bed trailer, pulling it with my 350 Ford Truck. I do this about 4-6 times a year, I was told by someone I need a DOT number.?? Do I ? and if I do where do I get it? How do I get it, and how much does it cost? Is there a fine for not having a DOT number for this type of transport? I would appreciate some direction. I live in Mihigan, I do not leave Michigan to transport these pallets.

Answer:

the price obtainable for pallets that are 40 x 48 usually get $1.00 a piece.
recycling? not much But pallets are often sought after by the companies that use them there seems to be a supply shortage. a haulage firm or similar that uses pallets often advertise for them
There are several place around Portland that give pallets away free. If you have excess, then you have to pay to have them recycled at a wood products recycling facility. It's cheap, they only charge something like $5 for a big truck load. So, to sell them and make money ? Nope, it's going to cost you more just to transport them
If it is a EURO pallet you can easily resell it. Those will have stamps on the feet i.e. DB if from germany. Any other - burning wood. Shame but true.
