My mechanic replaced the rear brake pads with ceramic ones about a year and a half ago. He replaced just the left one yesterday with a regular pad saying one side was worn down more than the other. He also charged me $100 for the ceramic ones but $110 for just one pad this time (I checked the prices after the fact). Does it seem reasonable that the ceramic ones need to be replaced after a year and a half is it ok to replace just one side? And doesn‘t ceramic ones usually cost more than the regular ones?
Buy four more tyres for your car, because that's what you must have since bikes only have two.
Next time buy a bike with 8 tyres
Yes he ripped you off , but only because he's a moron. You should never have to replace just one side. If he had to its because he installed them wrong in the first place. Therefore correction of his mistake/the problem. should have been at his expense. Yes Ceramic is more expensive then semi-metalic (normal pads) but not then Organic
yes ceramic pads do cost more but at the time he replaced the 1 side he should have replaced both sides regardless if the 1 side was not worn down as much ! sounds like he never did too many brake jobs !
1'st. Yes, ceramic cost more. 2nd. You don't say how many miles you've driven and that is more important than time. 3rd. When you say one do you mean one pad or one side? He should have replaced with ceramic but more importantly why did that one or one side wear so quickly. It usually means there was is a problem. Did the $110 include a rotor? At first glance it appears your getting ripped off but without specific details it's hard to judge. Brake warranties are usually spelled out in some detail so there are no mis-understandings. Is your mechanic working at a garage or his house. If it's a garage then you have a recourse . If it's at his home you still have a recourse but it's a little more involved. Without more detail it's difficult to be more specific.
