Question:

Operating an excavator in Ontario?

Do I need a license to operate an excavator in my own backyard in Ontario? Does the size of the excavator affect the necessity for a license? How about a Bobcat, do i need a license to operate that as well in my own backyard?.Ps, the excavator I am thinking of using has to be big enough to demolish a 1500 sq ft bungalow

Answer:

Operating heavy equipment in Ontario requires a D license (vehicles over 11,000 Kg) with an air brake (Z) endorsement. Each piece of equipment requires its own specialized ticket. These tickets are available from private career colleges across Ontario, and receive their ability to grant approved training from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. A small bobcat wouldn't fall under this restriction.
