I want to remove white paint from my rocking chair and I want it a warm walnut color. What exactly do I have to do? Do I strip it, sand it. What steps do I use?
I would recommend stripping it and then cleaning off the stripper with soap water. Once the wood dries then finish sand the entire chair 180 grit should do fine. At that point depending on the natural color of the wood you could apply a neutral stain followed by a clear coat to protect the stain. If you need to paint to achieve the color then go to Lowe's or Home Depot and find a latex paint that is a suitable color.
