If you had a 4 foot by 8 foot patch for a garden, which plants would you want to have the most? Assume there is a seperate patch for tomatoes, and those don't need to be included.Thank you
a Variety of Herbs for cooking and other use. Bee and Butterfly Flower Plants to attracted them to my veggie plants for pollination. And just plant plants or veggies you like or eat the most. PS..... LOL A Canine that smiles. You have such a friendly smile!
Things you can eat, lettuce, herbs, things that go to seed, things that come back year after year. If you plan on planting tomatoes you should plant a basil next to it. For good health. Try doing some research on borage. Good luck (:
If I were limited to a 4X8 patch I would want to grow things that produce well and store well, that would be high in nutritional value. Assuming vines would be allowed to sprawl or could be adequately supported I would plant winter squash and lima beans around the edges and, between them, a row of parsnips or sweet potatoes. For my winter crops I would plant a few collards, some turnips and some rutabagas, maybe some beets and either kale or kohlrabi in the tomato patch. Other than the kale and collards these can be stored for later use. If there is a freezer or the ability to can produce even they could be stored. Good luck and enjoy!
Any determinate, ideally a cherry style. I easily have terrible success with those indeterminate behemoths. Zone 8b (tomato flowers often bypass ineffective around right here in June as quickly as every day temps hit a hundred+)
