since your uncles friend is a machinist he can cut it on a lathe with no distortioni too am a machinist.
If you cut it with a regular copper pipe cutter and ream it out after should be fine
Use a hacksaw in a wooden miter box or a chop saw, do not use a pipe/tubing cutter, it will tend to crimp in the end
Cut it with a hacksaw using a fine tooth bladeAfter cutting, use a file to smooth all of the edgesA round file will clean out the inside of the pipe.
