I have linoleum floor in my kitchen and restroom, and i'm getting ready to lay down self stick tile over it as a part of the home renovation. Is there any special way I need to prepare the old floor before i stick the new tile to it?
as long as you have a sound and secure floor now, no really big gouges or loose edges, just areally good cleaning/degreasing before install should be all that is needed
as long as you only have one layer of vinyl/ linoleum you can use a level embosser on it once the existing is clean. The Level Embosser will make sure that you have a smooth surface to attach your flooring to.
You shoudl use a clear vct glue under the self stick tiles, they have a tendency to shift and move which will leaves gaps. you can buy the glue at home depot or lowe's. It is made by Henry's and you trowel it out and when it dries clear you stick the tiles it in. make sure you measure and know where you are gonna start.
You should also use a contact cement to help hold the self stick tiles to the old floor. Just spread a small area at a time and lay the tiles.
You need to combine all the answers but using contact cement. To expensive and to slow a drying time.. First and foremost the vinyl down now has to be down solid and cleaned of all greases and waxes.. Then 1 Use an embossing leveler, which is spread over the entire floor to ensure a smooth surface so any floor patterns don t telescope and show through.. 2..Have your lay out ready, Lines snapped etc.. 3. Spread a clear spread adhesive over a lot of the floor . Up to 1/2 the floor and let this dry clear because it ll be cloudy or a white glue and when it dries clear ( don t walk on it ) its ready to except the tiles. 4 When all done a 100# roller is recommended , GL
