problem straightening my hair :p?

When i try to straighten my hair it doesn't really workIt gets some of the hair straight but not really all of it and what it does straighten isn't really as straight as i'd like itCould the problem be the thickness of my hair? I have really thick hair 5 or 6 inches long, but its not all that curly, just kinda wavy, so i don't know why it doesn't work? Should i get it thinned?
