Mine's been doing that too.
remove the program with add remove programs then use the search box in your start menu to search for msn messenger in all files and folders. right click on anything it finds and select open containing folder, when it opens then just drag the highlighted file to the recycle bin. repeat ths with all found files until you have been through them all. Just make sure the file contains the word messenger in it otherwise don't delete. after you get rid of the lot restart, then re-download and install messenger. You should have no problems if you are thorough..
