In general, unless you have an employment contract, an employer can fire you at any time. Just like you can quit at any time. It is called employment at will. Why should his ex-employer be loyal to him when he wasn't going to be loyal in return? The major excepts to this is if you can prove that he was part of a protected class, and was fired because of it. For example, if he is black, and was fired because of it, he can sue.
I support him, because it is undemocratic for things to be hidden from the taxpayers and public eye, who deserve to have a say in EVERYTHING that goes on in the country. Unfortunately, what happened to him shows how even the justice system is not truly equal, and how it can be manipulated to do the governments bidding. Very evil, very real. I praise him for sharing documents that should be public, and releasing information on unnecessary deaths and war crimes. He is NOT a terrorist.
No, definitely not. This is not legal to fire someone for looking for another job or a different career. I don't care if it was for a rival paper or not. They had not taken the position yet and did not deserve to be fired even if they did take it. I hope your friend kept good records, such as evaluations, years worked, days missed, Doctors excuses for sick time, bonuses received if any things like this so that they can't say your friend wasn't a good employee, didn't work half the time or anything like that. I definitely think they have a good case against this employer because the last time I checked this is still a free country right. I hope this helps your friend some.
i don't think it is legal getting fired for seeking another job but i could be wrong
it depends on what state your in cause some states you can get fired for anything and others you could take the business to court
