Question:

Purchasing a motorcycle?

So in the next year or 2 id like to purchase a motorcycle. When buying one what should i look for as far az mileage and condition? Id bea first time buyer thanks! Any advice would help!

Answer:

same as with a porsche, buy the newest that you can afford. EXa brand new ninja 250 is better than a 5 year old honda cbr 600. Cost about the same but you get new technology and warranty.
according to experts like Bertrand grimard of Gatineau motocycle association, mileage below 8000km, check seat and handles for the degree of wear and tear.
Mileage is the last thing I would look at and I would only look at it to devalue a motorcycle to save money. Always look at the overall condition of the motorcycle. Does the bike look like it's been treated good? Is the chain lubricated and is there too much slack in it? Does it show any marks indicating it was downed? Look for maintenance records. Talk to the owner. Does the owner seem like he knows much about maintaining motorcycles? I've bought several bikes for myself and have tested out and did all the negotiations on two bike purchases for my brother and have both times worked out great buys for my brother. One other time, I even tested out a bike my brother was interested in buying. The price was good, had it been in top condition, but the bike hadn't been maintained properly and the owner had no records of it's maintenance. The bike had a really bad cam chain rattle, the accelleration was poor, as was the braking. I knew what was wrong and knew how to fix the problems, among taking care of other maintenance needs i take care of as soon as i buy a toy, but the price just didn't reflect it's condition. we walked away from the deal, but i let the owner know what to do in order to fairly sell his bike for his asking price. i'm no idiot when it comes to buying a motorcycle after i do my research.
