This Site Might Help You. RE: Why is gold so often found near or in quartz rock?
The short answer is that the conditions and the hydrothermal solutions that are needed for the deposition of gold are also right for the deposition of quartz. Of course, quartz can be deposited over a wide range of conditions, unlike gold - which is why most gold deposits contain quartz also but most quartz deposits do not contain gold!
The proper answer to your question is,..That,..the rocky crust of the Earth has many cracks, seams in it, is about 20 miles or so thick,..Beneath this crust is a level of moultant lava, moultant iron,.. sometimes,.. moultant gold,..So that, deep within the Earth ,.. NEAR volcanos you have a process, whereby , amounts of melted iron, melted gold, have been deposited into these cracks in the rocky shell of the Earth,.Then, through time, some of these seams are raised up to the surfice of the Earth,..So that you, have these cracks, in what miners call country rock that contain little globs of iron, sometimesgold that had been squished into these cracks, when this particular, country Rock' was deep under ground,..,..Quartz,now, comes into the picture, because Quartz, is formed when water, which contains a mineral called silica enters into these same seams, in which the iron gold already exist, this, water containing silica', causes the growth of quartz chrystals, which, will eventually fill up the seam, with quartz, creating a vein, in the country, rock, which will now, contain, quartz, iron gold,..So the relationship between the quartz the gold are purely coincidental in that they just happen to be in the same place, having come from different places,..in different ways,..When a Prospector goes looking tor gold, he will ignore a vein of clean quartz' look for a vein of dirty quartz,..in that, he is looking for a seam that contains iron,..because, the more iron that is contained,in the seam, the more likely the presents of gold,..So, .that is why, prospectors call iron,.The Mother of Gold,.. why the presents, of quartz, has nothing, really, to do,..with the presents of gold,...
