Question:

QUARTZ on clock faces?

Why is the word quot;QUARTZquot; written on many clock and watch faces?

Answer:

Tiffany is 99% right. I would dispute the fact that Quartz does not stain at all..... it can, if coffee of red wine etc... are left to sit on it overnight (same with granite). I also know it is not nessiary to seal granite in a kitchen enviroment. At the end of the day you should choose based on a prefference in colour as realisticly based on duability and cost there is no signifficant difference. Don't listen to the others they don't seem to know what they are talking about. Marble is a big no no..... unless you don't eat at home.
There are many stones out there these days that are durable. Quartz and marble are not so durable. That is why you are being recommended toward granite. I have had granite for some time and I have to say it is easy to work with and take care of. All stones have some labor intensive work involved but granite seems to have the least. In the end, it is your choice, but be aware of your use before you make the decision. I am a chef so granite was an easy choice for my needs. If you are not into cooking many options will work for you.
Granite will not burn or scorch where quartz can. Quartz is similar to plastic with gravel added to the mix, it fades quickly and is easily chipped. Granite is much more durable and practical
