Question:

question about a exhaust system?

my buddy has a 90's subaru there is a small hole somewhere in the exhaust and every time the engine is reved it sounds like he's got a turbo under the hood where on the exhaust system would this hole be to make this sign

Answer:

well if the sound is coming from the engine bay it seems like there might not be a hole but it might be the downpipe and the exhaust pipe are loose and not bolted on together rightt check that out just go under the car when its not hot. now if its not that u might need a new seal there which u can get at autozone
I've just completed 2 rebuilds of exhaust on 2 different cars. The most common areas for holes to check: 1) See if there's a flex pipe off the headers coming off the engine. This part vibrates a lot and bends as the engine moves so it can wear down. I replaced one of these for about $90 myself. It's just held in by 4 nuts and a couple of gaskets. Easy fix that my local mechanic wanted to charge $350 for. 2) Check all the flanges to see if they have loosened or corroded. I have seen a lot of these rust out right where the weld of the flange meets the pipe. 3) Check the hangers. The metal hangers are welded on the pipe to hang them under the car and the weld weakens the pipes at the weld so they can give out more easily. You may need to get some jack stands and a set of ramps to get under the car easily and safely at home. My local Wal-Mart will do a fleet inspection for like $15 and may be able to see a hole if it's obvious if you don't want to get dirty. I just got the tools and did it myself. I saved a lot of money and now I have the tools for future use. My total bill was going to be $650 for a complete repair and I did it all for about $200 with all new parts. (Advance Auto Parts is my fav parts store, best prices I've found)
it could be anywhere on the exhaust from the headers to the muffler, someone will have to manually check for the hole by listening where the sound is coming from and figure out if it is a part or a pipe
