Im going to get one for deer hunting and am wondering if I should get .45 caliber or .50 caliber and how much powder I should use btw this is a flintlock.
FORGET FLINTLOCKS!!! get an inline that uses 209 primers. This is far more dependable try traditions buckstalker. easy to care for and you don't need two types of powder as with flintlock.
I own one of each. It's easier to find a wider variety of bullets for the .50. Powder charge depends on the gun. I've had success with 80gr charges
50 cal are easier to find some states also dont allow .45 for deer with ml so id go for .50 cal
Get the 50, and read the manual for powder load recommendations.
Well both calibers will do the job but the .50 cal is a better choice out of the two. I deer hunt with a hawken .50 cal percussion rifle and I have killed many deer with it on the first shot. I shot a patch and ball with 60 grains of FFFg black powder. The powder measure depends on the type of projectile you use and the distance you plan to shot. You should shoot the same load all the time so you know where your hitting.
