Question about VW Beetle transmissions?

Can you tell me the difference between the manual the automatic transmissions of the VW Beetles? Specifically, I‘d like to know which transmissions are more reliable are less likely to have problems. I‘ve heard the autos have more problems than the manuals but want to know your personal experience with them. : )

Answer:

Manual transmission is bulletproof(have a sister and mother that tried to learn to use the clutch and shift and breathe at the same time. Not successful. Clutches are a separate piece like brake pads or the caliper Clutches wear out but if you are a good shifter that may not happen till 150Kmiles. Even then, a clutch cost $65.(that number varies as I have had $35 for a new clutch disc. Automatics.wish it upon people you don't like.
I would have to say that the manual transmissions are more reliable. I have seen a few issues with them, but not nearly like the autos. If you are a good manual trans driver, the clutch can last well into the 150k mile range. At some point the clutch will wear out. But with good driving, it usually outlasts the first and maybe the second owner. Most Beetle auto transmissions have their issues. The issue depends on the year. If you are looking for reliability, the manual trans is the way to go
