RAM air intake or Cold air intake?

basicly want to know which is better for more hp or which you would reccomend for my 08 mazda 3 sport GT i just want it to be faster and generally better than stock which both will do i know but.i can only do one

Answer:

There is a high pressure zone right in front of the windshield that can be utilized if you do not mind doing a few modifications to the area the windshield wipers rest in. This will work like a Cowl induction Hood (ram air) and also provide cold air intake. There is no kit for it, it will take some skill on your part. But most ram air kits are better then just a cold air intake.
Ram is a type of Cold Air intake. If your car has openings on the bumper, get a regular Cold Air intake. If you have a hole next to you headlight so that the air goes straight to your engine, then get the Ram. Or if you have a hood scoop, get the Ram. It has to do with where the air comes from. Cold Air Intakes go in front of the front tires, while Ram Cold air intakes are on top of the engine. They offer the same performance. For the Mazda 3, get the regular Cold Air Intake. It will get more air that way with the vents on the bottom of you bumper.
The cold air because the ram air gets good air flow but also it gets the heat from the motor. The cold air gets the cold air that comes thru the grill when you drive. A ram is cheaper but not as good.
