Our last couch was really old and somehow my husband convinced me to let our 4 year old dog come sit up there with us until we got a new couch (stupid stupid stupid idea.)Now we have the new one, and of COURSE, the dog doesn't get that he isn't allowed on this oneWe actually saved a cushion from the last couch and made him his own tiny couch on the floor and try to sit there with him as much as possible, hoping he'd think it was fun to sit there, and he will when we're in the room, but the second we leave he's up on the big couch againI've never had to un-do a behavior on a dog before, I'm really not sure how to go about thisWhen we have to leave him alone inside we just stand the cushions on end, but that's getting old and he needs to learnAny ideas? Thanks!
Go to Home Depot and get some sections of pipe insulation for the size line you are insulatingSometimes they are split so you can wrap it around then seal the seam with duct tape or something that they would have where you get the insulationThere is also a cork/tarry type of wrap that is on a roll, and you keep wrapping it around the pipe, overlapping it on each wrapBut you will need the space around the pipe to do this.

The existing pipe insulation is rubber and has badly split and deteriorated after only one yearI wrapped most of it in duct tapeIt seems to be intended for interior use but does not stand up well outside.
This may sound silly, but it worksPut aluminum foil across the seat of the couchYour dog won't jump up there, and eventually you can take the foil away and your dog still won't botherIf you are sitting on the couch, just leave the foil on the part that you AREN'T sitting on.
