Question:

Recipe for Hopping Bunny Bread from Better Homes and Garden Bread Cookbook from 1963?

Hi, I have a copy of the Better Homes and Gardens Bread Cookbook from 1963. In there is a recipe for Hopping Bunny Bread. The picture with the recipe shows two versions of the finished bread: one has the bunnies shaped in a curlicue type of fashion, with a head, body, tail and ears. The other version is simpler, just a twist of bread that resembles a bunny from the back, with a tail at the bottom. I have the cookbook but we moved and a lot of my books are in storage, and I won't be able to look for this book until after Easter. This bread is a tradition in my house...I bake enough for my family and for my parents too. I do remember that there is orange juice in the bread dough. If anyone has this recipe or cookbook and can give me the recipe I will really appreciate it!

Answer:

I have a Hopping Bunnies recipe scribbled on a recipe card. It is identical to the Orange Rosettes recipe. I've always used butter instead of shortening. The bunnies are shaped as directed in the link to the bread machine recipe. While still warm, they are frosted with a sugar glaze (see below). Mix ? cup hot water, 1 t butter and 2 cups sifted confectioner’s sugar. Mix until well blended.
Sorry, okorder /
I okorder Customer Service (upper right corner of the page) and ask them for the recipe. It's not on their website, but they should have access to all of their older recipe books. And once they see it's a requested recipe, they might add it to their website. You could suggest that to them since your family and friends enjoy it so much. Sorry I can't help you more.
