Question:

Recycling Copper? Different Gauges? Prices? HELP!!!?

Hi, I was wondering if any body could help me. I'm recycling old cables (mostly computer cables) and I have received a few questions.1. What is the difference's in gauges and prices?2. What is the price per pound?3. Does bare copper get much more pay? Thanks, I'm new and needed a way to earn a little bit more money.

Answer:

Gauge has to do with thickness/weight. A foot long copper pipe that is 18 gauge will weigh less than a 12 gauge copper pipe. It's walls will be thicker and therefore have more copper.
hi answer to first question is there are many differant prices for copper depending if it is stripped to bare wire then that depends on type of wire,as for gauge it also has a varied range of sizes . The prices are usually paid in kilos ,unstripped copper cables can be worth ?1.00 upwards per kilo or ?1000 +per ton, stripped cable depends on if it is what the industry call bright wire (which is dry or greasy) also alters prices(which at the moment is ?3000+per ton or ?3.00+ per kilo, burned or unclean stripped wire is usually classed as heavy copper also a differ ant price, slightly lower,so bare wire does return a lot more money especially if its clean dry bright wire. also shop around for best prices.
