because they are large and very noisy to cats it is like a huge monsterto them which is sucking all things. cars hate noise so they get scared when they hear this
Cat's are afraid of vacuum cleaners because they are loud and cats don't really see them often. My cat is the exact same. It is actually good that they are afraid because if there not afraid, that means they are deaf. So don't worry if your cat is afraid.
I think it's the noise, yes, but it's also the fact that the noise is so sudden, from complete silence or whatever's going on in the room previously. If a cat is motionless and all of a sudden, something is pushed towards her and she has less of a comfort zone, that may also scare her. One of my previous cats used to puff up her tail, curl her tongue and hiss at the vacuum until it was about 6 inches away from her. Then she'd run and hide until the noise stopped and the monster was put back in the closet. If the monster stayed out in the open, she would attack it with her paw when it was shut off!
Because they are large, noisy, and invade the cat's territory. They are just a huge unknown source of noise. Think, if a huge vacuum cleaner suddenly started vacuuming your city but you didn't know what it was, only that it was loud, what would you do?
because it is a monster to them and they think it would kill them or something like that.
