Question:

Red leather sofa mismatching carpet!!! OMG?

I have just bought a new house with a terracotta carpet in lounge and I desperately want red leather sofas - will this match??? See, I kinda like the terracotta, but am committed to my red sofas. Maybe if i painted the 2 walls red and 2 walls terracotta? or burnt sienna? maybe a little mustard trim for the windows and skirting boards? Any ideas and views would be really really helpfu!thanks guys!

Answer:

ok. the best color that it will look againt will be a multicoloe beinge/white/tan/vanilla combonation/. it will give u an overall light flooring with all of the best shades. now if i were u i will go for a laminate floor. which after all will be about the same cost as the carpet. n will get it in a blunt color very liht tone to make the furniture pop. these floors r esier to clean, dont hold dust n such n will last a long time. ur furniture sounds very nice. it deerves a great floor. hope i helpeed n good luck!
Since you kinda like the terracotta but you are committed to your red sofas the carpet has to go otherwise it will look like you live in a slaughterhouse.
You'll look like a south american fiesta room...don't do this. ONE of the two must go. Truly Elegant Natural color leather is best and ageless. No red! Don't mess up the woodwork. Lots of for an oriental area rug, sort of geometric, not floral, that has your colors and work from there. Start with good taupe walls and perhaps add an accent wall later. Get the Red in accents and accessories. If, unfortunately, you have already bought the sofas, then the area rug, at least 5 x 8, will be the only saving grace, with some dark blue to tone it down. and keep it very near the sofa. Neutral walls!
Without seeing the carpet and the red sofas, it's hard to tell. My initial thought is that it will not match, unless the sofa is an orange or coppery red. I wouldn't paint the walls red and terracotta, as you suggested. I think that would be too much of the same tones and you'd tire of it eventually. If you truly have your heart set on the red sofas, you could replace the terra cotta carpet. Or, you could lay a fairly large sized area rug over it, in a beige, cream, or tan color. You might be able to find a pattern that would incorporate both the red and the terra cotta tones. That would look nice under the red sofas and define a seating area. Depending on the size and shape of the room, you might be able to make another seating or study area, away from the red sofas, that would tie in but not fight with that part of the room. For example, in the other end or on the side of the room, you might be able to place two chairs, with a skirted table in between. For the skirt, I'd use a color that went with the area rug, such as cream, beige, etc. You could also have maybe a desk, bookshelves, etc. away from the main seating area. Tall green plants or silk trees, standing lamps, vertically hung art work, etc. would help draw the eye away from the floor, if you don't want to emphasize it, and up to the taller objects you've chosen.
Too much!!!! First see if you can find some throw pillows with both colors to help bring it together. If not, replace the carpet.
