Question:

Red wire in 220 with 8/3 with ground .?

I am wiring a 220 outlet to a box and am using Romex 8/3 with a ground . Black goes to one side of the 220 breaker, red goes to the other, and white goes to the common in the breaker box ? The plug will be wired appropriately to this .Is this correct according to wire colors .

Answer:

The best way is to solder on a male adapter on your copper pipe, then screw on a female adapter to start your cpvc.
CPVC is much easier if you are thinking about doing it yourslef.
CPVC is cheaper and easier to install, but copper is stronger and will hold up better. I like copper better.
if it was me the red wire would be the ground . find an electrician [ certified] and pay for that info or buy some books
8 AWG wire is rated for a 40 amp breaker. The terminals on the double breaker are used for the hot wires ( black and red). The white wire is attached to the neutral buss bar and the copper ground is attached to the ground buss bar. The receptacle that is wired on the other end will have four terminals The terminals for the hot legs are copper colored and the terminal for the neutral wire will be silver. The ground terminal is usually green colored. Make sure you turn off the main breaker in the service panel prior to doing any work in it. Keep in mind that there are still live wires coming into that main breaker though!
