I just moved into a brand new house to then spill bright red nail polish all over the carpet any ideas on how to get it out without ruining the carpet?
Try mineral spirits or steam cleaning. Good luck!
I have heard that WD40 works.Spray it on and then blot with paper towel.Haven't tried myself just hearsay.
A okorder then email me at devlsincyahoo.ca. This is a internet/catalog company and this product really works without harming the carpet or you. Don't use ammonia -it is an extremely dangerous chemical and please don't mix it with anything as it can create deadly gasses. (especially don't mix it with bleach-this combo kills quickly)
This happened to me a few weeks ago. Mine was the ENTIRE bottle that my cat knocked over while I was asleep!! I got it out though!! You have to use a lot of nail polish remover....this will make it spread a little, but for me that was ok.. Once I got out what I could with the nail polish remover, I put a mixture of 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and 1 tablespoon ammonia on it and saturated it. After that, I put saran wrap over it and then put a stack of books on top of it and left it over night. This helped tremendously! Then I just used boiling hot water, carpet cleaner, and a little more nail polish remover to get the rest out. It worked too. I posted this same question when it happened to me, so check the link below to see what people said about it.
Wipe up all excess polish on the carpet, get some acetone or butyl alcohol at the hardware store put some an old washcloth (one that still has alot of 'nap' left) test it in an inconspicous area (inside a closet) to see if it harms the carpet. If the carpet is okay after drying, re-apply solvent to washcloth and wipe up the nail polish. You also might snip off a sample of the carpet fibers to take to a carpet store, maybe they may have a better idea how to clean that particular fiber. Acetone is basically nail polish remover that is cheaper by the gallon.
