Question:

Replace a Slipping Transmission?

I have a 2000 Hyundai Sonata that has about 96,000 miles on it. I bought it used and learned later that the previous owner basically did no work on it. Lately my car has been jumping while idle (at red lights and such), and someone told me that my transmission is slipping. My question is: just because my transmission is slipping, does that mean that I have to buy an entirely new trans? I paid only $4000 for the car, and thats about how much I‘d have to pay for a new transmission. Any help would be appreciated!!

Answer:

you don,t have to buy a brand new transmission. you can get a good used 1 or take it someplace to have yours worked on.
no replacement, take her to the trannie shop, they will drop the pan tighten the bands up for you put new trannie filter screen and new fluid, she will be ready for a nother 100 years!!
No. You can purchase a used transmission (the cheapest) or buy a rebuilt one(or rebuild yours) or get a new one. The cost of labor to remove and replace is the same for all but the cost of the transmission is where you must decide. This only counts for worn internal parts. If there is a defective shift solenoid or some other simple problem, it might be fixed in the car for a lot less. P.S. Bands have not been used in front wheel transmissions sinceforever.
