Question:

Residential Boiler System?

How do you figure out the efficiency of a residential boiler system?

Answer:

A boiler is the heating plant used to create hot water or steam for hydronic baseboard, radiant heat or steam radiator heating systems. Boilers can use a variety of fuels including natural gas, propane, oil or electricity. Steam boilers are more complex than hot water boilers and have special gauge glass, pressure gauges, blow off valves and automatic feeds. Hot water boilers can be small, compact, energy efficient and low maintenance.
You need a new boiler . STOP PAYING $ 1200 A MONTH FOR OIL.
the best way is to have it tested by heating pro they have analyzers the will test it it should be done each time you have it serviced. The new equipment makes it very easy to make adjustments to the system. age will make some difference if it is oil fired but if it is gas they do not change as much. oil tests change for the worse within a couple of months so getting your oil boiler service regularly is a good idea and make sure they test it every time. hope this helps.
Output divided by input. Both numbers should be on cabinet label or manufacturers' specs.
Determining the efficiency of the boiler involves sampling the flue gases for carbon dioxide content, temperature differences of the gases as they pass through the heat exchanger, and the amount of heat in btu's being input into the unit. The flue gas analysis requires precisely calibrated instruments which use chemicals that must not be contaminated or allowed to leak. Temperatures must be measured which can reach several hundred degrees. These are not the sort of thing you can do as a layman. It requires a trained technician to draw the samples correctly and make the necessary calculations to determine the actual efficiency of the boiler.
