Question:

salt and vinegar cleaning copper?

so i know how it cleans but what is the composition of the solution after? because after using the same solution for a while it turns a greenish blue color so i was also wondering is it copper chloride?

Answer:

The solution at the end will contain copper(II) ions, ethanoate ions (from the vinegar), sodium ions (from the salt), and chloride ions (from the salt). Plus a lot of 'impurities' from the vinegar. The blue colour will be from the copper ions. Strictly from [Cu(H2O)6]2+ ions. If the chloride ion concentration is high enough then the solution will become greener (and possibly even yellow) because of increasing amounts of the [CuCl4]2- ion.
I tried this before.
