They won't give you any money unless you keep pushing for it. Make sure you have all the relevant documents organized. Document medical bills, days of sick leave you had to take in order to deal with this, pictures, notes from doctors, contact information from doctors, the list of events with dates and times. Everything that could be useful in court. Maintain a copy of it. Go through company and health insurance channels. If that isn't working, then look for grievance procedures. Politely ask for updates on your situation -- we're working on it is not specific enough. Be assertive without insulting the other person. Sometimes, they might act insulted to keep you at bay. The insurance company, who is the entity that will eventually be paying you, can drag it out for several years. The sort of response that you will get from them is the matter is still under investigation, and the courts will allow that. They will keep trying to wear your patience down and when they think they have you, they will offer you a piddling amount in the hope that you will settle to bring the matter to an end. It is a well tried method and I regret to tell you that in 90% of the cases it is what happens. If you feel that you have been damaged and it is worth the effort, stick to your guns and hold out for the amount, within reason, that you feel you should get.
