Question:

scratches on oak floors?

I have a oak floor that was sanded about 3 mos. ago....a beautiful job you'd never know it was a floor over 50 yrs. old. the person who did this is a perfectionist and it shows. unfortunately by accident there is a small scratch...looking for suggestions on touching up scratches on a wood floor, some people say mix cigarette ashes and cooking oil...not sure that's a good choice plus we don't smoke and neither do we have anyone close who does. is there a better suggestion thanks.

Answer:

Call the person who did your floors. He likely knows of a real product that you can use to hide the scratch. It will depend on what products he used to finish your floor so don't just try something randomly. It will have to be compatible with what is already on the finished floor. Beyond that, you might consider that scratches are going to happen and get over that first imperfection in your floor with the understanding that it's going to show wear eventually.
