I got a automatic 1995 Lexus sc400. The car seems to splutters before it is about to shift gear. Should I get my transmission flush or should I just change its fluid?
The latest scam at those lube N screw places is transmission flush. DONT DO IT. the problem is the transmissiion uses a high detergent oil already and is clean. Its best to just change the pan gasket and and go on down the road. otherwise the harsh chemicals in a flush can push too much crap out and it plugs up the filter and the tranny starves for oil over the next few thousand miles. not a good plan. As long as your fluid is pinkish now its fine it does not need a flush. Its a lot easier on a transmisson
There is only ONE reason for a transmission flush. to get you into the shop so the REAL problem can be diagnosed. I cannot think of a single transmission problem that a flush would actually solve, except for maybe a mouse stuck in the cooler line. Flushing the transmission sounds so cheap and you're so hopeful that it will solve your probable transmission problem. I know that desperate hope is hard to shake off, but take it to a shop, and explain the problem, not suggest a fix action. If you demand a flush, they will do it, but when it doesn't fix the problem, will you hold them liable, or will you take the hit? Take it to a shop you trust and let them repair it and get you back on the road.
just change the fluid and filter, never ever flush the transmission.Did you know that about 7 out of 10 transmissions are destroyed and trashed out after flushing them. All the debris like old shavings from the clutches and old burnt fluid is flushed right into all the moving parts like the piston's and the valve body which is the heart of the transmission it will cause them to stick and not work .I myself like many many other mechanic's on here can not understand why they offer this service and knowing what the customer is up against. It is not right at all. hope this helps ya out.,,,,,,,,,
